Couples Therapy
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
As humans we are hard-wired to strong emotional bonds with others, we experience relationship distress when we experience emotional disconnection with our partner at key moments of life, which leads to struggles that erupt in negative cycles, criticisms, and anger. The goal of my work is to help you overcome these negative cycles, re-establish your connection, and strengthen the emotional bonds.
My approach to couples therapy is through the lens of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy or EFT. This is a heavily researched and evidenced based form of couple’s therapy that focuses on connection, attachment, neuropsychology and the changing of destructive patterns of communication. EFT is truly an amazing process with success rates of 75% of couples moving from distress to recovery, and over 90% reporting enjoy significant improvement. After therapy couples will generally continue to enjoy improvement because they have learned to connect, deal with conflict, “hear”, resolve problems using their relationship bond, and they experience a deeper sense of emotional, physical and sexual well being. www.iceeft.com/index.php/about-us/what-is-eft
I approach couples work from a non-blaming, collaborative stance, believing that understanding the unique couple dynamic helps me understand your experiences as individuals and as a couple, and to notice different patterns that are interrupting your desired relationship. While I use EFT I will also bring in specific interventions for your specific need. I work to provide skills to the couple to become their own therapeutic agent in the future. I like to present creative options and unique activities for each couple informed by their personal interaction patterns, cycles, life stages, and their goals for their own therapy journey.
Most couples enjoy this special time together, and find it extremely useful not only for their relationship but also for parenting and family dynamics. I view a couple as ANY two people seeking to build their relationship and I embrace all couples right where you are. I truly enjoy Couples Therapy and look forward to working with you!
